L’Abbaye du Relec: oasis of calm within the Monts d’Arrée

A fascinating abbey in the heart of the Monts d’Arrée

Cistercian Abbey from 1132

The Abbaye du Relec was founded in 1132. Its situation in the Valley of Queffleuth, at the foot of the Arrée slopes, was perfectly suited to the Cistercian ideals.
The Abbey had an innovative hydraulic mechanism for irrigating the gardens and pumping water through the buildings. It also made a significant contribution to the local economy by developing the lands called La Quévaise.

What’s on site

There’s a large Romanesque church, vestiges of cloisters, two lakes, a pathway lined with trees, a monumental fountain and ancient gardens surrounded by deep ditches; all these elements trace the existence of the monks here for over six centuries.
This Abbey is open to the public all year round.

Living spectacle

The Abbaye du Relec opens its musical season from June, with two weekends dedicated to song. The season continues with the Arrée Voce festival focusing on vocal music from Brittany and elsewhere: songs from the oral tradition and songs with contemporary expression.
